The commemoration of Al-mawlid Al-nabawi

The celebration of the Prophet’s birthday (al-Mawlid al-Nabawi) is an opportunity to praise God for His mercies and blessings on His creations via His loving Messenger, Prophet Muhammad, God bless him and grant him peace. For the believers, this delight of the commemoration of the Prophet should be an occasion to renew their connection with God Almighty and earn His satisfaction and grace.

The tradition of al-Mawlid al-Nabawi, by Muslims, has been passed down from generation to generation. People cheerfully organize gatherings where they recite the Noble Quran, read the Noble Hadith, study the Prophet’s biography, sing praises and hymns, reconcile with their relatives, and spread joy throughout the community. Al-Mawlid al-Nabawi is an occasion and a bridge to draw closer to God Almighty, renew the love for the Prophet, and seek spiritual awakening.

As narrated by Abu Qatada al-Ansari, may God be pleased with him, the Messenger of God , God bless him and grant him peace, was asked about fasting on Monday, and he replied: “This is the day on which I was born and the day on which I was sent (with the Message of Islam) and the day on which I received revelation.” Reported by Muslim (SUNNAH.com). This shows that the Prophet, God bless him and grant him peace, observed his birthday just as he remembered the day of his prophethood and the day on which the Quran was revealed to him.

Muslims are urged to use al-Mawlid al-Nabawi as a chance to fully repent to God Almighty, and completely rebuild their relationship with the honorable Prophet, God bless him and grant him peace. It is advised to reflect on oneself during this time and question one’s relationship with God and His Messenger, as prompted by the following Quranic verse: “Say, ˹O Prophet, ˺ “If you ˹sincerely˺ love God, then follow me; God will love you and forgive your sins. For God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Quran, Al-Imran 3:31) (quran.com).

The commemoration of the prophet should actuate an honest repentance to God Almighty, asking for His forgiveness, and recommitting oneself to reading, memorizing, and practicing the Quran. The love of God and His Messenger should be the dearest thing to our hearts, as exemplified in the verse: “Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If your parents and children and siblings and spouses and extended family and the wealth you have acquired and the trade you fear will decline and the homes you cherish—˹if all these˺ are more beloved to you than God and His Messenger and struggling in His Way, then wait until God brings about His Will. God does not guide the rebellious people.” (Quran, At-Tawbah 9:24) (quran.com).

Speaking of him, may God bless him and grant him peace, is the key to hearts and the joy of souls. The happiest people are those who succeed in their worship of God by praying upon the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. It is one of the best acts of worship through which the servant draws closer to his Lord Almighty, and attains benefit from Him in this present world, as exemplified in the verse, “Indeed, God showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O believers! Invoke God’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace.” (Quran, Al-Ahzab 43:56) (quran.com).
