1. Context and Significance of the Symposium
This academic symposium is held in celebration of the new Malay translation of the book My Last Testament (wasiyyati) by Imam Abdessalam Yassine, may God have mercy on him, and in recognition of its educational, cultural, and civilizational meanings now opening to a new audience in Southeast Asia. Despite its small size, this book represents the essence of the Imam’s spiritual and intellectual experience—his comprehensive testament that encapsulates his methodology in creed, spiritual education, selfpurification, reviving the Ummah’s mission, and grounding Qur’anic and Prophetic values in the lives of Muslims.
This symposium is organized through collaboration between the North American Foundation for Islamic Services (NAFIS) and the Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM). It brings together scholars from Malaysia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Morocco, giving the event a rich academic diversity and a broad, global perspective.
2. Objectives of the Symposium
- Introducing Imam Abdessalam Yassine and his intellectual and educational project through his book My Last Testament (wasiyyati)
- Analyzing the educational and intellectual themes contained in the book.
- Examining the social and civilizational dimensions in the Imam’s guidance.
- Clarifying the Imam’s vision of the central role of women in the revival of the Ummah.

This symposium aims to present a comprehensive reading of My Last Testament by Imam Abdessalam Yassine as a spiritual, scholarly, intellectual, and civilizational document, and to open new horizons for researching the Imam’s intellectual legacy, may God have mercy on him. It also serves as an occasion to celebrate the new Malay translation of the testament and to invite the Southeast Asian region to explore the comprehensive project the Imam offered for renewing Islam and uplifting the Muslim Ummah—a project that revives faith in hearts, strengthens the unity of the Ummah, and helps it regain its glory, strength, dignity, and its noble mission in serving humanity.
