A letter of Condolence and Elegy

Ibn ‘Abbās (May God be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet may God bless him and grant him peace said: “Whoever wishes to be the most beloved of all people to God, should fear Him. And Whoever wishes to be the most powerful of all, should rely on God. And Whoever wishes to be the most needless of all people, should rely on what is with God more than what himself possesses.”

The Scholar of renewal, the Guide and Mujahid Imam Abdessalam Yassine

(The Justice and Spirituality Movement)

Verily, you were among the most beloved of all people to God, the most powerful of all, and the most needless of all people; because you were one of the righteous, of those who place their trust in God, of those who rely on what is with God more than what themselves or others may possess, of the people of ihsan, of the patient, of the repentant, of the purified and of those whose love to purify themselves incessantly, of the just, of those who fight in the cause of God with wisdom and good advice and argue in the best possible manner over your long age.

You have the right to be among those whom God the Almighty has declared His love of them explicitly in the Holy Qur’an. So congratulation for what you have done in the past, for what will be in the future [after your death], and blessed are you for what you have trained your fellow brothers on.

Indeed, from your fruits we knew you, from your writings we read you, from your history and positions you have shot to fame in your country, and from your conduct Muslims around the world have learnt your way of justice and ihsān, likewise the preachers in the Muslim world have learnt stability on the path of calling to God through your steadfastness.

Here I am elegizing you on the day of your death, though I missed the honor of meeting you in your life. I ask God to join both of us together in the Abiding Abode of His mercy, and I bid farewell to you with God’s saying: “Peace be upon you for what you have been patient for. Excellent indeed is the final abode.” 13:24
