Title given to the supreme leader of the Muslim community. The second Caliph ‹Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb was the first to be called Commander of the Believers (Amīr al-Mu’minīn). His predecessor Abu Bakr was called the Prophet’s Successor (Khalīfatu Rasūlillah).
